Our Story
A Family-Owned Jeweler in the Bay Area
Solano Jewelers began in 1977 when founder Zareh Ekmekjian opened the doors to his first jewelry store on historic Solano Avenue in Berkeley, California. What started as a passion for craftsmanship quickly grew into a full-service jeweler offering jewelry and watch repairs, appraisals and restringing.
His daughter, Aline Aghababian, grew up in the store, often doing homework in the back room while watching her father design and manufacture jewelry by hand. Those early years shaped a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and the meaning jewelry carries in people's lives.
Today, Aline proudly continues the family tradition at Solano Jewelers in Lafayette. Alongside a skilled team of professionals, she helps clients create new memories through custom pieces while preserving the stories behind treasured heirlooms.
Now, a third generation has joined the family. Aline's son Aren Aghababian brings the same dedication to craft and client care that has defined Solano Jewelers for nearly five decades, proof that what Zareh started in 1977 was always meant to be passed down.
In 2018, the store moved to Lafayette, continuing its legacy in the Bay Area while welcoming a new generation of clients. Nearly 5 decades later, the philosophy remains the same: treat every piece with care and every client like family.
